Medium White Sage Smudge Stick
The most common form of sage used for smudging is the California White Sage, which is native to the coastal mountains of California.
The tradition of using the sacred sage by the Indigenous Native Americans has been around for thousands of years.
It has been used in religious ceremonies to:
To use the Medium White Sage Smudge Stick : Get a ceramic heat proof bowl. You can either burn on the stick or cut some into the bowl and burn in that. I find that cutting off into the bowl will make your sage stick last a lot longer and is easier to control.
You don’t want the sage actively burning, it only needs to be smoking. Use a feather or your hand or whatever you have handy to keep the smoke going.
Always start in the same place in each room. Work your way anticlockwise around the room to dispel the negative energy, or clockwise to attract the positive.
Have a window in the room open so all that nasty energy has somewhere to go.
Get into all the dark places, under the bed, in cupboards etc. Work your way around the entire room and then move onto the next one. When you have finished do yourself and the put the smudge back into it’s original starting spot. Make sure it is not still burning. Cover with a dish to smother it.
As you go around there are many smudging prayers you can say. Whether you say it out loud or to yourself is up to you as long as the intention is there.
Smudging Prayer:
Into this smoke I release all energies that no longer serve me, all negativity that surrounds me, and all fears that limit me
